Project Aim

The Ulysses S. Grant Presidential library is a historical museum experience at Mississippi State University in Starkville, Mississippi, covering the life, history, and myths of our 18th president.

The first interactive is comprised of 4 short films narrated by James Earl Jones and featuring prominent Grant historians. These short films introduce the themes of the gallery: Grant as a Family Man, a General, a President, and a Stateman.

The second interactive explores that legacy of Grant and how some facts have been mythologized. The experience takes users on a deep-dive of five potential facts of Grant. After hearing historical evidence in interviews, quotes, and artifcats, the user is then allowed to input their own impression on the tale.

The third and fourth interactive gives users a timeline view of Grant’s history while showing historical photos, quotes about the man. The third one explores Grant as a general, while the fourth gives his time as a statesmen.

The fifth interactive is a digital recreation of the Seven Mile Funeral Cortege of General Grant. Users can view historical documents and photos while learning more contextual information.
